Foolproof Attention Getters For the Entire Year!

Why did the teacher write on the window?

Because the lesson needed to be clear!

Foolproof attention getters for the entire year

Did I get your attention? Ha! Maybe my jokes aren’t the funniest, but my attention getters are on point! And that is what I want to share with you today- attention getters. They are also called call and responses and they are such a fun classroom management tool!

What Are Attention Getters?

An attention getter is a simple call and response tactic that you teach your students to redirect their attention quickly. They can be as simple as you saying, “class, class” with them responding “yes, yes” in the same rhythm, or you can incorporate a popular song your students are loving. For example, you could start to sing, “I want to take my horse” and the kids would respond “down to old town road”.

Boom, you’ve got their attention.

Why to Use Them

There are so many reasons why using call and responses to get students’ attention is a great idea. For one, it saves your voice because you’ll never have to raise it! Second, they are an awesome classroom management tool when your students get a bit too loud, chatty, or you have an important message to give them. Last, but not least, they are rooted in fun and connection with your students and that’s the most important classroom management hack you’ll ever learn.

It’s best to teach and use multiple attention getters so you can keep your students engaged and focused. They must pay close attention and remember what their response should be.

The Benefits

Do you want to be less stressed when the volume is too loud in the classroom because you know you can simply say a phrase to get everyone’s eyes and ears on you? You can use attention getters.

Do you want a super quick, easy, and fun way to cut the chaos out of your classroom? Use attention getters.

Do you want to impress anyone that walks into your room at your skills of getting every kid engaged and on task? Use attention getters!!

Do you need an extra, VERY effective tool in your classroom management toolbox that will cost you nothing? You need attention getters.

I think the benefits speak for themselves. So what are we waiting for? Check out some super fun, and really easy, attention getters you can use NOW!
