Halloween is a fun holiday for students but it can be a bit much for teachers to have to handle. The energy to regulate is at an all time high and it can feel like October is the longest month of life. So I like to manage that high energy with a lot of fun so time flies by and we’re all still learning and practicing crucial skills. Halloween themed activities are a sure fire hit and I promise you’ll LOVE these 5 EASY and engaging centers that are perfect for the month of October. So what’re we waiting for? Let’s get into these FANGTASTIC activities!!
Rhyming Puzzles
It’s time to bust out allll the pumpkins! Not only is this center low prep and tons of fun, but students will also love matching the pumpkins! There are rhyming pumpkins for both short and long vowel word families. Provide an extra challenge and have students write the words on the puzzling pumpkins recording sheet!
Spook-tacular Sight Words
Whether students are working on heart words or sight words, they will LOVE practicing with these spooky houses. They are completely editable for you and are easy to store in Michael’s Task Boxes! Students will grab a house and construct the words with their boo-tiful ghost letters. This activity is also completely editable so you can have students practice the words they need. It’s like this activity was meant to be in your classroom. A real Romeo and Ghouliet!!
Halloween Number Puzzles
Who doesn’t LOVE working with puzzles? What about puzzles shaped like ghoulish creatures?! Check out these adorable puzzles that students will LOVE to build, get great number practice, and have a blast doing it! They work with numbers from 0-20 and give students the opportunity to recognize numbers in ten frames, on number lines, and equations. Talk about some spooky good fun!
Carve Out Some Gourd Fun
Let’s give our students pumpkin to talk about with this one! Rhyming has never been so fun. This ‘Feed the Pumpkin’ activity lets students feed the rhyme that matches the picture on the pumpkin. Simply glue the pumpkins onto things like brown paper bags, tissue boxes, or even plastic containers. Switch it up with a sensory component by placing your pumpkins inside a tub of corn kernels! You can add some tongs to feed for fine motor practice and you’ve got an activity that is SURE to keep them engaged during the month of October!
Mini Erasers = A Ghoulishly Good Time
Mini erasers have SO many uses, including working on number sense! With this activity, students will love spinning for numbers and counting out mini erasers that you can find in Halloween or fall themed shapes! And the number practice doesn’t stop there. There’s activities for filling in ten frames, number webs, number bonds, and more with super cute themed number mats!
