Apple Week Fun Reads
To illustrate the greatness of apples, here’s a list of our favorite read alouds that get us in the apple mood! These books are perfect for pairing with different activities. From learning about the life cycle of an apple to harvesting apples, your students will LOVE all the great new apple knowledge! Below are affiliate links to books we use, which means
Taste Testing
What is more hands on fun than bringing in actual apples and working with our 5 senses?! Of course the students love getting practice tasting, touching, smelling, inspecting it with their eyes, and even listening to them!

Incorporate Skills
After a little taste testing, students will have a blast writing about their favorite kind of apple during apple week. They will work through the writing process, as well as complete an adorable lift-and-reveal craft that will look great on the bulletin board!
Want students to work on labeling instead? They will LOVE learning about all the parts of an apple. Cut an apple in half to begin learning and labeling! You can label as a class, then have students get some individual practice by labeling their own apple. They’ll also get fine motor practice with the cut and paste part! Talk about a win-win!
Literacy Activities
Apple week must include some super cute high-frequency word practice! First, this activity allows students to build their own apple trees to create their words. Finally, they write those important words on a recording sheet for extra practice. Most important, they absolutely LOVE it!
Do you have students working on beginning sounds? For apple week, use these beginning sound task cards for skill practice!
I also love to sneak in a bit of math skills with some apple week graphing! First, the class will get to create their own class data after trying different kinds of apples and choosing their favorite. Then, we ask and answer questions about the data, making it such engaging practice. Furthermore, you can have students work on their own graphing sheet to show their families all the great learning!
Speaking of sneaking in math, check out this idea for practicing number sense and recognition during apple week! Students will LOVE creating their own apple trees. They’ll trace, count, and create trees. Use playdough or markers and let them have a BALL! These mats are no prep and easy to differentiate too. Whether students are working on numbers 0-5, 6-10, or 11-20, this pack will have you covered!
And of course don’t forget your fall freebie! Create a sensory bin and let students practice subitizing! Grab yours now with the sign up below!

Additionally, we learn about the life cycle of apples to extend our learning. Students learn all about how an apple grows! Create an anchor chart together and then let students complete the cut and paste of their entire life cycle!

Make Your Own Applesauce for Apple Week
Have you ever made your own applesauce with students?! It’s actually particularly easy and fun. What a great way to wrap up a week of great learning and maybe even throw in a little how-to writing lesson as you all make it! You need just a few supplies. A crockpot, spoon for stirring and eating, 8 apples, bowls for eating, water, sugar, and cinnamon.
- First, peel and core the apples then slice them into small chunks.
- Second, add the apples to the crockpot then add half a cup of water and half a cup of sugar.
- Third, cover and cook on high for 3-4 hours. Stir and serve warm!
- Fourth, serve in bowls with spoons. Finally, add a little dash of cinnamon for extra flavoring.
This recipe will make enough for each student to try a little. You can always double the recipe to have more. Want to have the students participate in the process? Pre-prep most of the apples at home, as well as the other ingredients you’ll need. Let students watch you cut the apples and maybe even have a chance to stir!
Enjoy your yummy homemade applesauce and, of course, all your apple-learning fun! Make sure to grab the complete Apple Activity pack to have your entire week planned out for you with zero stress or planning!
