End the Last Week of School on a High Note
We spend so much of the school year helping our students become independent learners who can problem solve social situations and learn how to be good humans. That means the last week of school should be a celebration of all that hard work and learning! Start with a daily countdown to celebrate each student. This an awesome activity that turns into a lovely keepsake for your students. Each day, create an anchor chart for a student and have all the other students write what they’ve loved about them throughout the year. At the end of the day, gather and share all the nice things students wrote about that person and allow them to take it home as a gift! It’s such an easy and meaningful activity for students. You will hear SO many sweet things and it’s something for them to cherish for forever!
Speaking of cherished memories, a memory flipbook is a great, personal way to reflect on all the fun things from the year together. This is one of our favorite last week activities because it can be done slowly, it’s a great time filler, and it’s a very calming activity for students. At the end of the week, they can go around the room and get autographs from all their friends! Talk about a great way to wrap up the year together.
Who doesn’t love an award ceremony the last week of school?! You can keep it real simple and still have an unforgettable time. I love to roll out a red carpet to add a touch of glamour as students receive their honors. It doesn’t need to be extravagant; simple red butcher paper works wonders! You can also find affordable options at Hobby Lobby or Amazon like THIS one. This one small detail elevates the event and creates a memorable experience. Additionally, you can arrange your classroom chairs into rows to make it really feel special.
When it comes to awarding the awards, it’s crucial to consider various factors beyond academics alone. Instead of solely focusing on the best writer or highest achiever, acknowledge growth, creativity, and exceptional character traits. From celebrating kindness to academic achievements, your students should feel recognized and seen for all of their hard work. To help you ensure every kid feels seen and recognized, I’ve created these adorable alliteration awards for every letter of the alphabet! And of course I included editable options for to create your own so they can fit exactly what you need. Your students will be so proud to accept these awards and that is absolutely priceless. Get them ready for the next grade level. By beginning to have these conversations with students, you can spotlight students that are exhibiting “next grade level behaviors”. Motivate students by allowing them to wear these badges for the day! By the end of the year, everyone will get one to take home!
