Are you looking for ways on how to keep your class calm & learning the week of Halloween? If so, I’ve got you covered! If you feel like your classroom’s turning into a haunted house of chaos, don’t worry. You don’t actually need a magic spell to keep things running smoothly. I’m sharing my favorite Halloween Week Classroom Survival Tips to help you keep your class calm, learning, and even have a little spooky fun along the way. So let’s turn the madness into manageable with no broomstick required!

1. Stick to Your Routine (But Make It Festive!)
Our first Halloween week classroom survival tip is routine. Structure is your best friend this week. Keep your schedule as normal as possible, but sprinkle in Halloween-themed activities to add fun without chaos. While it’s tempting to toss the schedule and dive headfirst into crafts and candy, keeping your regular routines in place gives students a sense of calm and predictability (which they desperately need when excitement is at an all-time high).
But of course, you can still join the spooky fun! Add a festive twist to your lessons such as counting candy corn in math, writing spooky stories in writing workshop, or turn your read-aloud into a costume-themed storytime. Keeping your schedule steady, while sneaking in seasonal flair, is the ultimate sweet spot between fun and focused. And if you MUST insert a craft, might I suggest THIS adorable Crankenstein activity. You can tackle reading, social emotional learning, and fine motor skills all in one!
2. Keep Behavior Incentives Visual & Short-Term
Long-term rewards won’t cut it this week. With all the Halloween hype swirling around, your students need instant motivation to stay on track. Use visual trackers, sticker charts, and other quick wins like whole class rewards to encourage focus in short bursts. These short-term incentives are simple, effective, and just the right amount of spooky fun to keep behaviors in check without losing your mind. Bonus points if your chart has pumpkins, bats, or googly eyes because everything’s better with googly eyes.
3. Move, Shake, and Move Some More
Halloween week = turbo-charged kids. They are literally buzzing with energy. Instead of fighting the wiggles, plan for them! Schedule in short, structured movement breaks with a Halloween twist such as a “Monster Freeze Dance” or “Zombie Walk.” Build them in as frequently as you can. A few minutes goes a long way in keeping the littles focused this week! Not only do these spooky brain breaks help burn off extra energy, but they also reset focus so your little goblins can get back to learning.
4. Prep Early & Over-Plan during Halloween Week
This is not the week to “wing it” for anything. Have every activity copied, cut, and ready to roll before your students even smell the Halloween candy. When your plans are airtight, you’ll spend less time scrambling and more time teaching. This also means fewer chances for off-task behavior to creep in. And remember, it’s always better to have too many activities than not enough, because nothing invites chaos like five unscheduled minutes during Halloween week!
If you’re looking for fun and engaging Halloween literacy and math activities for students to practice important skills and concepts, look no further! From practicing letters, letter sounds, and letter formation to number recognition, formation, and STEM, these are exactly the fun hands on activities to keep your learners learning this week! This jam packed bundle includes hundreds pages of interactive activities. These resources can be used as centers, morning tubs, early finishers, or whole group. However you use them, your students will have a BLAST!

5. Lean Into the Fun—But Stay Firm During Halloween Week
It’s okay to have fun! Just stay consistent with expectations if you want to survive this Halloween week. Make it clear that fun is earned through great choices. Embrace the spooky spirit, just don’t let it run the classroom! Keep expectations crystal clear and hold your ground. A well-managed class means you all get to enjoy the magic of the week, without the tricks. And since there’s no tricks, you must get a treat!
